Il y a 152 ans, Cheikh Belhaddad déclenchait une insurrection anticoloniale, considérée comme un moment majeur du cheminement national vers la libération du pays, au vu de son ampleur et son impact populaire ayant ébranlé les certitudes de l’occupant et convaincu les Algériens qu’il n’y a pas de salut pour le pays en dehors de la lutte armée.
L’insurrection de cheikh Belhaddad, de son vrai nom, ou Cheikh Aheddad, comme il est connu populairement, dont la commémoration est prévue le 8 avril, est venue donner un prolongement aux soulèvements antérieurs, notamment ceux de l’émir Abdelkader (1932-1947), d’Ahmed Bey, des Zaâtcha, de la Dahra en 1845, conduite sous la férule de Cheikh Boubaghla, Lalla Fathama N’soumer et Ouled Sidi-Cheikh, qui se sont succédé de 1846 à 1870.
Elle a également intensifié l’engagement patriotique envers la nation grâce à une mobilisation jamais réalisée, comme affirmé par des historiens et chercheurs.
L’appel à la révolte, lancé solennellement le 8 avril 1871 par cheikh Aheddad au cours d’une harangue à la place du marché de seddouk, dans laquelle il a soutenu l’idée de « jeter les français à la mer », a eu un écho phénoménal dans presque tout le pays, notamment de Sour-El-Ghozlane jusque dans le Constantinois, rapporte l’historiographe Idir Hachi dans son livre consacré à l’insurrection de cheikh Aheddad intitulé « 1871, une levée en arme pour l’honneur de la patrie », édité en mai 2021.
