L’Algérie a été classée troisième à l’échelle du continent africain, en termes de lancement et de détention de satellites en orbite dans l’espace. Le rapport qui a été élaboré par Spacehubs Africa, un cabinet de conseil unique qui accompagne les décideurs politiques, les acteurs industriels et les start-up de l’industrie spatiale africaine, cite l’Égypte et l’Afrique du Sud, respectivement, à la première et deuxième position. Avec six satellites lancés depuis le lancement de cette aventure spatiale algérienne, sous l’égide du Centre national des techniques spatiales (Cnts). Ainsi, six satellites, dont Alsat-1, -1B, -1N, -2A, -2B et Alcomsat-1, qui ont été lancés depuis. L’Algérie profite, ainsi, d’une expertise acquise au fil du temps et des accords de partenariats passés avec des pays divers, dont la Russie, la Chine, l’Inde, l’Angleterre et l’Afrique du Sud, entres autres pays. Le rapport de Spacehubs Africa revient sur les péripéties du programme spatial algérien de lancement de satellites, qui remontent à l’année 1995, avec le lancement d’Alst1.
Le rapport en question remonte jusqu’à la création de l’Agence spatiale algérienne (ASA), ainsi que le Centre national des technologies spatiales (Cnts), où le projet a véritablement germé.
