« Les Etats-Unis ont informé les Nations unies et la mission permanente de la Russie à l’ONU que nous entamions le processus d’expulsion de douze agents de renseignement de la mission russe qui ont abusé » de leur statut diplomatique aux Etats-Unis « en s’adonnant à des activités d’espionnage contraires à notre sécurité nationale », a dit la porte-parole de la mission américaine à l’ONU dans un communiqué.
Elle a assuré que cette mesure était en préparation « depuis plusieurs mois », semblant vouloir la distinguer de la riposte américaine à l’invasion russe de l’Ukraine.
