Des dizaines de milliers de personnes ont à nouveau manifesté samedi dans plusieurs villes du Brésil contre le président Jair Bolsonaro et sa gestion contestée de la pandémie, qui a fait plus de 461.000 morts et menace de s’aggraver à nouveau.
Dans le centre de Rio, quelque 10.000 personnes masquées ont défilé à l’appel d’organisations de gauche et de mouvements étudiants, aux cris de « Bolsonaro dehors ! » ou « Bolsonaro génocide ! ».
« Personne ne veut être dans la rue au milieu d’une pandémie. Bolsonaro ne laisse aucune alternative. Nous sommes dans la rue pour défendre des vies. Nous n’allons pas attendre l'(élection présidentielle de) 2022. Ce n’est que le début », a déclaré Guilherme Boulos, leader du Mouvement des travailleurs sans-abri (MTST).
Depuis le début de la pandémie, qu’il a qualifiée de « grippette », le président brésilien a critiqué les mesures de quarantaine, promu des médicaments sans efficacité prouvée et mis en doute l’efficacité des vaccins.
Les manifestants estiment que de nombreux décès auraient pu être évités si le gouvernement avait lancé plus tôt la campagne de vaccination, qui progresse lentement.
Ils accusent également le président de promouvoir la déforestation de l’Amazonie, la violence et le racisme.
Des manifestations ont été organisées dans de nombreuses villes brésiliennes, dont Salvador (nord-est), Brasilia et Belo Horizonte (sud-est).
Les organisateurs avaient demandé aux participants de respecter les gestes barrière et ont distribué des masques et du gel hydro-alcoolique.
Selon le site d’information G1, une manifestation organisée à Recife (nord-est) a été dispersée par la police avec des gaz lacrymogènes et des balles en caoutchouc.
Ces rassemblements interviennent après deux week-ends de manifestations de soutien au gouvernement convoquées par Bolsonaro lui-même.
Son taux de popularité est tombé à 24 %, son plus bas niveau, selon un sondage de l’institut Datafolha.
Ce sondage révèle également que 49 % des Brésiliens sont favorables à sa destitution, tandis que 46 % y sont opposés. Il place l’ancien président de gauche Lula da Silva, grand rival de Bolsonaro, en position de favori pour remporter l’élection présidentielle de 2022.
