Abdelghani Okbi a rejoint les rangs de l’Armée de libération nationale (ALN) en 1956 et fut chargé de la préparation des unités de l’armée au Sud-ouest du pays, où il mena plusieurs opérations contre les forces coloniales françaises.
Il fut également chargé de la mission de commandement de la 8e zone de la wilaya V historique.
Après l’indépendance, le défunt moudjahid a assumé plusieurs postes de responsabilité dont celui de wali dans les wilayas de Sétif, Batna, Constantine, Saïda et Oran. Il fut aussi ministre du Tourisme, puis du Commerce et a exercé au corps diplomatique en occupant le poste d’ambassadeur d’Algérie en Italie, Tunisie, Chine et Mali.
En 2004, il a été désigné membre du Conseil de la nation.
Le corps du défunt sera inhumé ce dimanche au cimetière d’Ain El Beida d’Oran après la prière du Dohr.
