Prononçant un discours d’une heure centré sur la religion, les armes et la famille. Le président brésilien d’extrême droite s’est définit comme le seul rempart possible contre la menace communiste, faisant allusion à son principal adversaire, l’ancien président Lula : « Nous sommes majoritaires. Nous sommes les bons, et nous sommes prêts à nous battre pour notre liberté et notre patrie. Nous devons attirer les jeunes gauchistes de notre côté, leur montrer la vérité et leur montrer ce qu’ils ont à perdre avec leur candidat »
Cette annonce intervient alors que le président continue de mettre en garde contre ce qu’il appelle les failles du système électronique de vote. Certains craignent qu’il refuse d’accepter le résultat de l’élection en cas de défaite, comme son ancien homologue américain Donald Trump.
